Making a Bequest to Shepherd University

Private gifts made for the benefit of Shepherd University are received and administered by the Shepherd University Foundation.

Donors who wish to create a named endowment with their bequest are advised to set up the written endowment agreement through the Shepherd University Foundation. In this way, the Wills or beneficiary assignments need only name the Foundation and the named fund in order to designate the gift according to the donors' wishes. The endowment agreement will be kept in the Foundation's permanent files for future reference. The award criteria in the agreement may be changed during the lives of the donors by working directly with the Foundation, without having to change the Will or beneficiary assignment.

If the donor does not want to set up a named endowment, gift bequests in any amount may also be designated in various ways. The following language has been suggested by Foundation attorneys over the years:

"I give, devise and bequeath to the Shepherd University Foundation, Inc. (Tax ID #55-6020064), a non-profit, charitable educational corporation in Shepherdstown, WV, 25443?.

?the sum of $ __________; or ____percent of my estate

?to be designated as unrestricted funds for the benefit of Shepherd University; or
